McCloud Lower FallsSat-Sun Jan 21-22: Chemult Sled Dog Races
Mushers from as far away as Arizona, Michigan and British columiba have made the trek to compete at one of the Oregon's best kept secrets: the trail system on the Fremont-Winema National Forest, beginning at eh Walt Haring Sno-Park. In its 18th year, men and women both contend for a top finish in every class while teenagers will compete with 60 year olds. A food concession is on t site and there are special events for the kids such as snowman making contest, coloring contest, and a Peewee race. This event is dependent on snow accumulation.. Sat-Sun Jan 28-29--12-4pm:Chester Winterfest Sled Dog Races Sierrra Nevada Dog Drivers will race at the Four Corners--highway 89 & 36  behind Cedar Lodge--for an exciting winter event open to those who wish to compete, viewers, and volunteers. Saturdays and Sundays in January: Crater Lake National provides ranger-led snowshoe hikes at 1pm. Steel Visitor Center. No Charge. Call the Steel Visitor Center at 541-594-3100 for more information. No prior experience is necessary.

Sat-Sun Feb 11-12 : 5th Annual Siskiyou Sled Dog Races
Come to the mountains of Northern California to view, compete, or volunteer at the 5th Annual Siskiyou Sled Dog Races. Mark your calendars to attend the races! Keeping up the spirit of the famous "Great Race of Mercy", this event qualifies participants for the Iditarod race in Alaska today. Off of Hwy 97, at Deer Mountain/Chuck Best Snowmobile Park just 16.8 miles north off of Highway 97.  Watch for Signs.  Free Parking.  Alternate site at Four Corners will be available if snow conditions at Deer Mountain are marginal. Fri-Sun Feb 17-19: Winterwings Festival: Plan to attend the 33rd annual Winter Wings Festival on President's Day Weekend. Home to the largest concentration of wintering Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states in both south central Oregon and northern California, the Klamath Basin is a key stopover on the Pacific Flyway. Hosting 80% of the birds that use the Flyway, a total of six separate nearby refuges comprise the total National Wildlife Refuge complex spanning nearly 200,000 acres. A unique, strong cooperative partnership between farming, water resources, and the refuges provides an abundance of prime habitat that attracts vast numbers of waterfowl and raptors. Sat May 12: 9am-3pm The Annual Klamath Falls International Migratory Bird Day Festival                                          This festival takes place at Veterans Park, part of the Klamath Basin Birding Trail, and is held to increase community awareness of birds. Activities include bird walks, mist netting demonstrations, Link River Historic Walk, bird migration obstacle course, bird olympics, wildlife rehab presentation, and much more. Sun-Mon May 26-27--Memorial Day Weekend Craft Fair
Annually held in the Chester Park, visitors and residents can enjoy two days of arts and crafts from various artists and vendors. Handmade crafts, art, ceramics, jewelry, food and more will be part of this event in the beautiful mountain community of Chester. The event is located just off of Main Street in downtown Chester. Sun May 27--Memorial Service at Living Memorial Sculpture Garden
A memorial service will be held at the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden in honor of veterans who have died in the line of duty. The service will take place at the Hot LZ Wall where Dr. John B. Sat –Sun June 15-16--Annual Mile High 100 The Mile High 100 will treat you to a quiet day on the back roads that wander through the lush green forests where the Cascades and the Sierra merge. This is not a race, but a collection of tours for cyclists of all abilities. The purpose of this event is to promote recreational bicycling "under the volcano" in the shadow of Lassen Peak with scenic views around Lake Almanor. spaghetti feed and massage therapy available. Thur-Sun, July  19-22--58th Annual Weed Carnevale
The Weed Carnevale will celebrate summer with food, vendor, craft and vendor booths, live music, bocci ball, a soft ball tournament and carnival rides for kids and adults alike. The Festival celebrates its agriculture heritage as the largest producer of wild rice in the world. Continuous live music, great food, wild rice cook-offs and many craft exhibitors make this festival exceptional. Sun August 5--Summit Century Bike Ride
There is  no ride quite like the Mt. Shasta Summit Century. Challenging climbs. Breath-taking views, lightly trafficked, rural roads. And a cloverleaf route that encourages you to test yourself -- you're never more than a downhill away from home. Four routes await you -- including the Super Century that's tougher than the famed Markleeville Death Ride. Rides of 30, 60 and 100 miles are also available. Rides start at the Mt. Shasta City Park on Nixon Road.

Sat-Sun, Oct  6-7--12-4pm, Annual Bizz-Johnson Marathon and Run
For those high-performance athletes, a marathon, 1/2 marathon, and 10 kilometer run is scheduled annually at the Bizz-Johnson Trail outside of Westwood and Susanville. The Bizz Johnson Trail begins at Mason Station and travels through scenic Lassen National Forest. The first few miles of the course climb 280 feet through the forest to Westwood Junction, then it’s downhill to the finish at Susanville, with a 1300-foot descent over the final 20 miles. The trail follows the route of the old Fernley and Lassen Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, built in 1914.
