| The Lake Almanor Region The Lake Almanor region provides a respite from the coarse volcanic features to the north. Lake Almanor is a water lovers playground with its glass-like surface for skiing, sail boating, sailboarding and jet skiing. Resorts in Almanor, Lake Almanor West and Prattville provide lodging and dining with a family camp atmosphere. Lake Almanor is also home to year round fishing and nearby streams are popular fly fishing spots. Winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy uncrowded downhill and cross country skiing runs at Stover Mountain as well as snowmobiling trails. The northern community of Chester serves as a gateway to Lassen Volcanic National Park and a vacation headquarters. Dining and lodging are available in Chester, or you can head west to golf resorts on the Lake Almanor Peninsula. In Westwood you will find the Bizz Johnson Trail, a reclaimed 30-mile stretch of railroad grade that is now open to hikers, bikers, horseback riders and cross country skiers.
